March 31 (Game 4): Giolito Cruises in First Start of Season

Image
White Sox (1-2) @ Royals (2-1) Lucas Giolito v Jorge Lopez Seeking a series split, the White Sox finally get to play on a sunny day.  Stream it!:  https://www.mlb.com/live-stream-games/2019/03/3 1 The White Sox strike first, with back-to-back HRs from Jose Abreu and Yonder Alonso off Lopez in the 4th. Giolito walks Whit Merrifield to lead off the game, then retires 18 straight Royals before Alex Gordon finally breaks up Luke's no-hitter in the 7th. This was the kind of satisfying victory that fans of good teams get to enjoy on a regular basis. Final Score: White Sox 6, Royals 3 Highlights:  https://www.mlb.com/gameday/white-sox-vs-royals/2019/03/31/565704#,game_tab=videos,game_state=final,game=565704 Game Notes: The White Sox score consecutive runs on walks in the 6th, thrown by two different Royals pitchers (Lopez and Tim Hill) This Alonso guy looks like a good signing! I can really see him sticking around for a long time! Lucas starts the ...

March 30 (Game #3): Bad Weather, Worse Pitching

White Sox (1-1) @ Royals (1-1) Reynaldo Lopez v Jake Junis The White Sox look to take the series lead in KC.  Stream it!:  https://www.mlb.com/live-stream-games/2019/03/30 Reynaldo struggles throughout, but is able to get through it anyway until the Royals break through in the 4th. By the time Abreu jacks a 3-run HR in the top of the 6th, the Royals are already up 4-0. It never gets any closer, because the Royals drop 4 more on the White Sox bullpen in the bottom of the 6th, started by Whit Merrifield (again!) singling off Nate Jones with men on 2nd and 3rd. Final Score: White Sox 6, Royals 8 Highlights:  https://www.mlb.com/gameday/white-sox-vs-royals/2019/03/30/565703#,game_tab=videos,game_state=final,game=565703 Game Notes: Only 3 games in, the 20MM White Sox fall below .500 for the second time. Sometimes making chicken salad out of chicken...umm, out of horrible baseball isn't possible. Eloy gets the 1st hit of his career Moncada homers in...

March 29 (Game #2): Davidson, Anderson Crush KC

White Sox (0-1) @ Royals (1-0) James Shields v Danny Duffy The 20182019 White Sox look for their first win on another cold, rainy day.  Stream it!:  https://www.mlb.com/live-stream-games/2018/03/29 James Shields gifts the Royals 4 runs before recording the 1st out, which matches my memory of EVERY James Shields start for Chicago. Adam Engel hits a double in the 3rd for the team's first hit. Yoan Moncada follows that up with his second backwards K of the day.  Then, in the top of the fourth, Danny Duffy does his best Shields impression and the White Sox bats come alive. Avisail Garcia doubles, followed by back-to-back homers by Jose Abreu and Matt Davidson. Consecutive diving catches by Alex Gordon and Alcides Escobar keep things close, but the Sox take a 5-4 lead after a Tim Anderson homer and Moncada double.  The White Sox hold the lead for the rest of the game, with Davidson crushing an additional 2 HRs (total of 3 on the game) and Anderson h...

March 28 (Game 1) - It's Time for 20,182,019 White Sox Baseball!

White Sox (0-0) @ Royals (0-0) Carlos Rodon v Brad Keller It's a rainy, cold, typically miserable March day in Kansas City as we kick off this (potentially) exciting (fictional) season. Link for full-game stream:  https://www.mlb.com/live-stream-games/2019/03/28 Rodon and Keller match scoreless outings until the bottom of the fourth, where a Mondesi triple and Gordon sac fly (with a nice catch by Daniel Palka) break the deadlock. It stayed that way until the 6th, when a 2-rbi single from Jorge Soler, and a Yolmer Sanchez error blow the game open for the Royals. H ighlights:  https://www.mlb.com/gameday/white-sox-vs-royals/2019/03/28/565702#,game_tab=videos,game_state=final,game=565702 Final Score - White Sox 3, Royals 5 Postgame Notes: This might not be as easy as it seemed - some days this team is going to lose to a truly awful Royals team because there's no other option Carlos Rodon has no command, but it's still not a bad start thru 5 To keep things fre...

What the Hell Is Going on Here?

Let's be honest...White Sox fandom is a painful pursuit. The 2005 team wins the first franchise World Series in 88 years, and this example of relative competence is completely forgotten about in the national media because it takes 108 years for the more-popular Cubs to win one. As if that's a good thing, 108 years. What's more, the team hasn't made the playoffs in 12 years or had a winning record since 2012. But enough about the past. 2019 was better, and offseason additions point to 2020 being a great year! Can't wait for the 2020 seas...fuuuuuuck. Going into the season, the White Sox have a 27.9% chance to make the playoffs ( Fangraphs pre-season playoff odds ). 27.9 fucking percent!!! This is the highest preseason expectation since probably 2008 or so! I, for one, refuse to let the 2020 spring and possibly summer pass without some good White Sox baseball. Which leads to the current experiment. MLB has made the past two seasons of MLB.TV available free...
