McCann, stealing hearts like he steals borderline pitches
After 7 games, the White Sox are 3-4, good for 3rd in the AL Central, 1.5 games behind the Tigers (?!?!?).
| AL Central | W | L | % | | GB | | RS | RA | +/- |
| Detroit | 4 | 2 | 0.667 | | | | 15 | 11 | 4 |
| Minnesota | 3 | 3 | 0.500 | | 1 | | 25 | 19 | 6 |
| Chicago White Sox | 3 | 4 | 0.429 | | 1.5 | | 42 | 35 | 7 |
| Cleveland | 3 | 4 | 0.429 | | 1.5 | | 20 | 25 | -5 |
| Kansas City | 2 | 4 | 0.333 | | 2 | | 30 | 42 | -12 |
Other than the Tigers being in first at any point in the season, this is pretty much in line with what I would expect to happen. Because we're selecting from two seasons, the natural tendency for every team other than the White Sox will be for them to congregate around .500. This is because choosing based on White Sox results will necessarily break up winning streaks for Cleveland (in 2018) and Minnesota (in 2019); and, likewise, long losing streaks are also likely to broken up by at least occasional wins for the Royals and Tigers.
Batting/Defense
Looking at the batting stats so far, the MVP has been Jose Abreu. He's hitting .379 (as is Yoan Moncada), and his 3 HR are tied with Matt Davidson for most on the team. He also leads the team in Vetus Win Probability Added (vWPA)*, a measure of how much a player's actions are impacting results.
*
I've adapted WPA from the traditional definition to assign credit/blame to fielders for actions occurring after the ball is hit and to the catcher for strikeouts, wild pitches, passed balls, and stolen bases. It's far from perfect, but I hope that the imperfections will balance out over the course of the season.
On the defensive side, James McCann tops the vWPA boards - Sox pitchers are striking out 28% of hitters with him behind the plate.

Pitching
The pitching is bipolar. Starters have been good, overall, despite struggles from Shields and Lopez. The bullpen, however, is a bag of flaming dogpoop.
(Please note that the WPA numbers will differ from the traditional measure because I'm assigning credit/blame to fielders, as well).

Around the League
The White Sox are scoring more than any other American League team, but they're also allowing the 4th most. Oakland and Seattle are off to great starts, and the Angels...oof. Imagine what their record would be without Mike Trout. Yeah, that's right; still 0-6.
In the NL, the Brewers are already out to a 3 game lead in the Central, the Dodgers can fucking hit, and the Giants have only allowed 14 runs in 6 games. Unfortunately for them, they've also only scored 12.
