... And Yoan was straight fire on a cold April night.

... And Yoan was straight fire on a cold April night.
It was Lopez vs Lopez at Guaranteed Rate tonight, with Reynaldo leading the Sox against Jorge for the Royals. Reynaldo has struggled a lot recently, but he was good tonight - 6 IP, 5 H, 1 HR, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K. Jorge Lopez struck out 10, but the White Sox bashed him for 3 home runs - 2 by Yoan Moncada. In total, the Sox hit 4 home runs, including Leury Garcia starting off a back-to-back bash with Moncada in the 5th and a Yonder Alonso bomb in the 8th.
Final Score: Royals 1, White Sox 5
Other game option: White Sox 1, Athletics 8
Game Notes:
- This was the 1st time in MLB history that two men surnamed Lopez faced one another as starting pitchers.
- My ongoing Whit Merrifield mancrush continues: he fouled off 8 pitches on the way to a groundball single in the top of the 5th. The White Sox don't have anyone who takes at bats like that.
- Lopez threw a ton of strikes and was very successful mixing pitches. This is the guy we want to see in 2020.
- Sox win despite a team offensive K:BB of 14:2
- White Sox MVP: Moncada. 2-4, 2 solo HR. Started a DP, also pivoted one at 2nd while shifted.
- LVP: Anderson. 0-4, 2K. Still good enough with the glove to be a positive in this one, though.
