April 12 (Game 16): Eloy Blasts Through the Rain

White Sox (6-9) @ Yankees (7-5)

Lucas Giolito (1-1, 5.71) v J.A. Happ

Eloy Jiménez weekend recap for the record books | NBC Sports Chicago

Eloy ends the homerless beginning of his career and begins the homerful career to come.

Fresh from a five-game losing streak, the White Sox arrived in New York badly in need of a win. Luckily, J.A. Happ and the Yankees bullpen were happy to oblige. Also, the weather pitched in by not allowing the White Sox bullpen to reciprocate! The rain finally became too much, and the Sox came away with a rain-shortened  6+ inning victory. The big story was Eloy's first two career homers. The first tied the game in the 5th; the second was insurance in the 7th.

Final Score: White Sox 9, Yankees 6
Other game option: White Sox 0, Twins 4

Game Notes:
  • Not a well-pitched game by either starter - Giolito wasn't good (5 IP, 6 H, 1 HR, 4 ER, 4 BB, 6 K).
  • Leury continued his strong hitting start with a 2-rbi double.
  • WhiteSox MVP: Jimenez. Way to go, man. You won this one.
  • LVP: Giolito. I know you're going to get better through this experiment, and that's a good thing.
