April 10 (Game 14): 9th Inning Comeback Falls Short; Losing Streak Is Now 5 Games

Rays (8-4) @ White Sox (5-8)

Blake Snell v Carson Fulmer (0-0, 3.38)

White Sox's Carson Fulmer - Los Angeles Times

Jose tried to save them again, but a poor Fulmer start doomed the White Sox.

Carson Fulmer started for the 2nd time in the combined season, and he wasn't very good. He held the Rays scoreless through 2, but his shaky command got him in the 3rd. A Joey Wendle single and Nicky Delmonico error, coming after two walks, scored Daniel Robertson and Denard Span. Continued problems allowing baserunners led to two more runs in the 4th and 5th. Fulmer would take a Mallex Smith (him, again?) line drive off his ankle in the 5th and only lasted one batter after that.

The Sox entered the bottom of the 9th down 6-1, but staged a ferocious comeback off of Ryan Weber and Alex Colome. Jose Abreu's 3-run homer brought the score to 6-5, but Colome was able to get Omar Narvaez to fly out to right to end the threat.

Final Score: Rays 6, White Sox 5
Other game option: Rays 9, White Sox 1

Game Notes:
  • Apparently, the visiting team hotel in St. Petersburg is haunted. Thanks, Jason, Steve, and Chuck for the story.
  • WhiteSox MVP: Tyler Saladino. 2-3, including a ground-rule double to set up the first White Sox run.
  • LVP: Fulmer.
