April 14 (Game 18): Anderson Grand Slam Sinks Yankees
White Sox (7-10, 4th ALC) @ Yankees (8-6, 2nd ALE)
Carlos Rodon (1-2, 3.38) v Masahiro Tanaka

Timmy came up big in the 4th inning.

Timmy came up big in the 4th inning.
Masahiro Tanaka's 1.47 ERA coming in was 3rd in the league, but it wouldn't last long. After 3 great innings (5 Ks in the first 6 hitters), Tanaka's control went south and he loaded the bases. Then, the game changed drastically, as Tim Anderson smacked the ball over the rightfield wall.
In a reversal of Tanaka's performance, Rodon struggled for the first 3 innings. After a trademark Don Cooper buttchewing at the mound, Rodon cruised for the next 3. In all, Rodon would pitch 6 strong innings before giving way to the bullpen. An excellent performance by Jace Fry, Nate Jones, Kelvin Herrera, and Alex Colome closed out the game.
Final Score: White Sox 5, Yankees 2
Other game option: None
Game Notes:
- Yolmer continues to struggle: he dropped a relay throw in the 1st - unlikely he would have gotten Judge at home, but still, man - catch the ball!; then, had an incredibly ugly caught stealing in the top of the 3rd, where he slowed down and didn't slide into second base, only to be tagged out.
- Moncada was also thrown out on the bases trying to stretch single to double in 4th - but, really, it wasn't a mistake. Judge played the ball perfectly off the wall and made a great throw to second to just nip him.
- Abreu came within a foot of another Sox grand slam in the 5th, but Judge snagged it, limiting the damage to a sacrifice fly.
- The White Sox were 5-7 in SB attempts today (!), on a variety of different pitchers. Looks like they liked their chances running against Kyle Higashioka, who I didn't know existed until rewatching this series.
- White Sox MVP: Anderson. The grand slam was truly a game-changer.
- LVP: Rodon. He really wasn't bad overall, but his first 3 innings were pretty rough.
