20182019 White Sox Experiment, Week 4 Results and Standings

Game 22, 4.18.18: White Sox Blow Two 5-Run Leads, Lose in 14

White Sox (10-11, 3rd ALC) @ Athletics (10-8, 2nd ALW)
Carson Fulmer (0-1, 4.26) v Andrew Triggs

Final Score: White Sox 11, Athletics 12 (14 innings)
  • Fulmer sucks again; Bummer also continues to struggle
  • Moncada hits 1st career grand slam
  • This A's broadcast crew is good: Glen Kuiper, Ray Fosse, Dallas Braden. Informative and entertaining.
  • MVP: Tim Anderson. Had a game-tying single in the top of the 9th
  • LVP: Luis Avilan. Gave up the Jed Lowrie 2-run HR in the bottom of the 8th to put the Sox down a run
Other game option: White Sox 7, Tigers 9

-----

Game 23, 4.19.19: Yolmer, Yoan Back Solid Pitching Effort

White Sox (10-12, 3rd ALC) @ Tigers (7-9, 4th ALC)
Carlos Rodon (2-2, 3.27) v Jordan Zimmermann

Final Score: White Sox 7, Tigers 3
  • MVP: Yolmer!. It's about time. 1-1, 1 R, 3BB, 1 SB. Involved in 2 double plays
  • LVP: Yonder. 1-5, 1 RBI, 1 K, 1 GDP. A pretty good outing by the entire team, so even this was not that bad.
Other game option: None

-----

Game 24, 4.20.18: White Sox Get Their Asses Kicked by Astros

Astros (16-6, 1st ALW) @ White Sox (11-12, 3rd ALC)
Justin Verlander v James Shields (1-1, 4.15)

Final Score: Astros 10, White Sox 0
  • Shields was pretty successful 1st time through order, then got battered in the 4th inning
  • This is the game in which Danny Farquhar had a brain aneurysm in the dugout after leaving the game. I'm so glad he made it through and is healthy. It's easy to reduce these men to what they can do on a baseball field - stories like Farquhar's remind us that they are every bit as human and vulnerable as the rest of us.
  • MVP: Adam Engel, 0-3, 1 K. Pretty good in CF, though. That's how bad this game was - someone who went 0-3 added more win probability than anyone else.
  • LVP: Shields. *sigh*
Other game option: None

-----

Game 25, 4.21.18: White Sox Close Gap on Astros...By Losing 10-1 This Time

Astros (17-6, 1st ALW) @ White Sox (11-13, 3rd ALC)
Dallas Keuchel v Lucas Giolito (2-1, 5.30)

Final Score: Astros 10, White Sox 1
  • My rule regarding avoidance of divisional losses means I had to watch this shitshow instead of the White Sox dropping a 4-3 game to the Tigers in 2019.
  • Giolito has a godawful start. Truly horrific. Thank god, he gets better.
  • Moncada got yanked for not running out a grounder in the 2nd.
  • Trayce Thompson hit an opposite field homer in only his 2nd game back - this was predicted pre-game by Steve Stone.
  • MVP: Tim Anderson. Seriously, the most positive thing that happened to the White Sox tonight (other than Thompson's meaningless home run with the team already down 10-0) was a leadoff double to begin the bottom the 1st. Thanks, Timmy. 1-4.
  • LVP: Giolito. Easily the worst start by any starter so far in this imaginary season. 2+ IP, 5 H, 1 HR, 9 ER, 7 BB, 1 K.
Other game option: White Sox 3, Tigers 4

-----

Game 26, 4.22.19: Thank God, It's the Orioles

White Sox (11-14, 4th ALC) @ Orioles (9-14, 5th ALE)
Manny Banuelos (1-0, 5.40) v David Hess

Final Score: White Sox 12, Orioles 2
  • I've never heard of a bunch of this Orioles team: David Hess, Richie Martin, Rio Ruiz, Tanner Scott
  • Miguel Castro threw 3 wild pitches in the 8th inning before he got his second out
  • MVP: James McCann. 3-5, 1 HR, 1 R, 4 RBI. Also a big play in the 4th to pick Renato Nunez off of third base.
  • LVP: Leury Garcia. 1-6, but did score twice.
Other game option: Astros 7, White Sox 1

-----

Game 27, 4.23.18: Moncada Batters the Mariners

Mariners (13-10, 2nd ALW) @ White Sox (12-14, 3rd ALC)
Mike Leake v Carson Fulmer (0-1, 6.19)

Final Score: Mariners 4, White Sox 10
  • MVP: Yoan Moncada. 3-5, 1 HR, 1 3B, 1 2B, 3 R, 1 RBI. Only a single short of the cycle.
  • LVP: Avi Garcia. 1-2, left injured in the 3rd inning
Other game option: White Sox 1, Orioles 9

-----

Game 28, 4.24.19: Santana Struggles Again, White Sox Fall Short

White Sox (13-14, 3rd ALC) @ Orioles (9-16, 5th ALE)
Ervin Santana (0-0, 5.40) v John Means

  • MVP: Jose Abreu. 2-4, 2 RBI.
  • LVP: Moncada. 0-4, and Ruiz's 1st inning single went right through his defensive zone. That's not necessarily bad play, since it could be bad positioning

Other game option: Mariners 1, White Sox 0
